What I Did On My Holidays
So this is basically going to be one of those blogs that looks like a diary entry, which I normally try to avoid because I don’t have much of a life and other people do it better than me (hi Simon!). I’ve just had a week off work, and it has been exactly the kind of week off I like: a good few days of doing not much, some meeting of old friends with fun ensuing, finding some new friends, and a tiny little bit of productivity.
I’ve been spending most of my week watching The West Wing, which for my money is one of the best pieces of serious television ever made, charting the career of a fictional, some would say idealised, US president. It’s dramatic, funny, touching and searingly well-scripted, which is everything I want from a TV show. It’s been years since I watched all the seasons through so I thought I’d make a start on them again.
A few months ago my good friend Kerry had asked me if I had wanted to go and see Steps live in their reunion concert. I had been asked before that by another good friend but I wasn’t in the best of moods that time and said no. When Kerry asked me I was in a much better mood and said yes, and went we did! First for food at Handmade Burger, who replied to my mentioning them on Twitter, which I thought was a lovely touch, then on to the concert proper. It was great fun, the five didn’t seem quite as animated as I remember but then we are all of us ten years older than we were the first time so I’m not complaining. H made a joke about having sex with Lee which was amusing, and the backing dancers were amazing(ly fit), one of whom had the most awesomely well-sculpted arse I believe I have ever seen. So all in all, a fun night!
I have known a couple of eyebrows be raised when people have seen the Grindr app on my phone. I’m going to put my hand on my heart and swear that I have never used it to solicit “fun” as it is endearingly euphemised on there, but I have found a couple of people on there that I’ve enjoyed chatting to. And since I took new portrait pics and put them on there (the same having received positive comments on my Facebook profile) I’ve been practically tripping up over people messaging me to say hello. Most are boring, ugly, or most horrifically of all both, but a few have jumped those hurdles and I’m having a good time just chatting all night to interesting, pretty young men. So if I look like I haven’t been sleeping well, thats why.
Finally I have gotten mainly topside of my laundry, scheduled a dentist appointment where I hope and pray I’m going to be told that my mouth is fine, and sorted out going down to Brighton in June to meet up with more of my lovely friends. I’m very much looking forward to this and with the health kick I’m currently on showing no signs of abating (in fact I’ve been slacking off slightly this week as it’s my holiday and am actually looking forward to getting back on it) I should be hitting the south coast looking fitter than I have done in many years. God help me I might even escape getting horribly sunburned there this year. So yay for me!
