#BEDM14 Day 28 – What Gets You Out Of Bed?
I like my bed. It takes a lot to get me out of it. I don’t start work in the morning so I don’t have that to spur me on; I set an alarm primarily so that I have a bit of time to myself in the morning and I’m not awake until 3am every night. That said, here are the things that actually get me out of bed…
1. My Bladder
I get in late from work and usually only have a few hours before I’m in bed, and as I’m physically busiest just before I finish work I’m usually thirsty when I get home. This means I play a constant game of chicken with my bladder – I have to drink enough, quickly enough, that I rehydrate myself and do the necessary without stuff lagging behind and making a nuisance of itself early in the morning.
2. The Smell Of Bacon Cooking
I will kick my way through a brick wall for a bacon sandwich of a morning. I hardly ever have it as I don’t cook it for myself because effort, but if I’m with family then bacon sometimes features and the smell is just the best thing ever.
3. Coffee With Breakfast Treats
Coffee in the morning makes the world bearable. Usually I just have a banana for my breakfast but on days off I tend to treat myself and have something sweet like yum-yums, doughnuts, muffins or pain au chocolat. uuunft.
Because I wake up later than everyone else, the world has already started tweeting by the time my eyes open. Thus I already have stuff to catch up on while I’m caffeinating myself – it’s my morning ritual.
5. World of Warcraft
Back in the distant past when I had a BF and a pleasant apartment and nice things and stuff, our Sunday morning routine was: we’d eventually get up, I’d make a literal mountain of bacon sandwiches and several huge mugs of coffee and we’d both play WoW next to each other for a few hours. Sometimes we’d play together, sometimes apart (he did a lot of grouping with others whereas I was always a lone wolf) but we’d be next to each other, looking what the other was doing, answering each others’ questions, doing research for the other if they were busy but needed to know something, etc. Even when I was on my own I used to play for a little while before work. I’m not able to play WoW any more – I hate playing graphically intensive games on my laptop as the noise and heat it puts out just freaks me out. One day I’ll be able to go back to it though. A BF playing next to me and a plateful of bacon sandwiches handy would be even cooler.
