#BEDM14 Day 10 – A Piece Of Advice For Others
There is a very old fable about a great king who instructed the wisest of his wise men to come up with something simple and visible at all times that would prompt him to be happy during times of sadness but also remind him that happiness does not last forever. The wise men deliberated and eventually presented to the king a simple ring on which they had inscribed the words:
This too, shall pass.
And this humbled the king.
I try to keep this phrase in mind, mainly at present to remind myself that better times are on the horizon. But it’s also I think a warning against being too smug and self-assured, and if I ever do reach a point in my life where I’m truly happy, I hope that I’ll remember it then, too. But not too often…
