#BEDM Day 9: This Is My Moment
A moment in your day
A quick and simple one, from last night actually. But first, a bit of background.
I supervise the Operations department of a large High Street store (one that is currently engaging the services of Joanna Lumley to encourage the public to fetch in its unwanted clothes for charity). This is part complicated logistics, part sweaty dirty grunt work. Now, Ops in my store has been building a reputation within the business as a centre of excellence – we’re really quite good at what we do. As such, we have visitors from other stores, regional management and even business leadership trolling through our stockroom on a semi-regular basis. Such is the case today, so yesterday we were going around and dishing out a bit of spit and polish.
Obviously we are a working stockroom so we can’t look like a showroom every minute of the day, and so some things do start to look a bit untidy or dusty. Nothing monumental, and all it needs is a bit of TLC to bring it back to full magnificence. And so, as I finished work last night, aching, tired, dirty and perspiring, I walked around my stockroom. There is something immensely pleasing about your hard work having a physical manifestation and I am immensely proud of my place of work – seeing things immaculately squared away, everything in its place, in order, cleaned, swept, neat and tidy, is massively satisfying to any Ops man. It also means that we can have visitors at short notice who will walk in and go “wow”. That’s what I go to work for.
