#BEDM Day 13: Apologies All Round
Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be…
Dear humans of the future,
if things don’t go according to plan and we in the past end up tearing ourselves to pieces and rendering Earth inhospitable to human life… I’m sorry. We really didn’t mean to. And we came so close. By 2013 things were balancing on the edge of a knife, and it could have gone either way. Technology and knowledge were advancing so quickly by then but we were too stupid to pay attention to it. It wasn’t as if we even aimed for our potential and fell short. we never even aimed. Fear and small-mindedness triumphed over optimism and unity and all we did was blow a hole in the ground.
Some of us had such high hopes. But hoping clearly wasn’t enough. I’m sorry.
If, however, everything comes off as we hope it will and that advances in power generation, computation, biology, nanotechnology and all the other nascent future sciences mean that humanity is effectively immortal and infinite and living in perfect harmony then GOOD JOB US! You are most welcome. Hopefully I live long enough to be part of that great singularity of humanity.
